In Uttar Pradesh, to protect the rights and interests of minorities, a one member committee was established in 1969 , followed by a five member commission in 1974.
In 1994, the commission was given a statutory status through the enactment of the Uttar Pradesh Minorities Commission Act, 1994 ( as amended in 2013 ), the commission comprises one chairperson and 8 members , including 2 women members. The term of office for the Hon’ble Chairperson and Hon’ble Members has been fixed at 3 years.
